California Trek: Halfway

So, in case people are unaware (and most likely many are because unless you heard it from us our families, you would not know), we have left Minnesota. I finished law school in May and took the bar exam in July. Since I had no job lined up in Minnesota, plan to enter the Air Force JAG Corps (assuming they grant me a medical waiver), and had a lease that ended the end of August (with an increase in rent if we stayed), we decided to move to California for a while and stay with my parents in San Bernardino.

Here is the summary of our trip so far:

Sunday, August 30:

We left Minnesota after church and headed to Sioux Falls, SD to stay the night with Jensine's parents. It was a sad farewell because the boys really love their Grandparents, especially Grandpa Tibbitts.

Our first stop was in Alliance, NE, home of Carhenge. Carhenge is a replica of stone-henge with all stones accounted for, made from classic American cars. Here are some pictures of our visit there.

The trip from Sioux Falls to Carhenge was mostly rural and our car showed clear signs of this.

After Carhenge, we stayed at a hotel in Scottsbluff, NE. We went for a dip in the pool (okay, okay, hot-tub) and then got the kids ready for bed. Jensine enjoyed a moment with Austin and Isaac watching Sesame Street videos on the laptop.

After a continental breakfast, we headed to Aurora, CO to stay with Jensine's sister Amy and her family. They also have two boys and Isaac and Austin enjoyed playing with their cousins.

When I took the four boys over to play in the park behind the Wixoms' house, Austin decided that he did not want to leave the yard (and the dump truck in it). I tried to get him to come by "leaving" him there and closing the gate. I watched the other three boys from by the fence and watched Austin through a hole in the fence. For ten to fifteen minutes, he sat there completely at peace with the fact that he was alone. Eventually, I lost the patience competition and took him to the playground myself.
